《华夏时报》2004年秋季在得克萨斯州注册，2005年春节创刊，是一份面向大休斯敦地区华人华侨的综合性的简体字周报，涵盖德克萨斯州和大休斯敦地区与中国在文化艺术、科技教育、经济贸易等方面的交流，专题报道美中两国和海峡两岸的重大事件，提供社区动态、商家资讯等。2008年和2010年专版报道北京奥运会与上海世博会的筹备与进展，满足了各界读者的需求。
《华夏时报》的电子版www.chinesetimes.us于2006年开通，面向世界各地的中文读者。本报与中国新闻社海外中心、中国新闻社驻美国分社、中国新闻网、中央电视台CCTV4合作，报道德克萨斯州和大休斯敦地区的新闻。美国NBA赛季与新浪网合作跟踪报道休斯敦火箭队的赛况、新闻发布会、球星动态等。2012年9月与《中国妇女》杂志合作在美国发行。
《华夏时报》积极参与由国家电网公司、中国新闻社主办，北京奥组委会、国务院侨务办公室、中国文联协办的全球华人迎奥运征文“同一个世界、同一个梦想”活动，在18万篇征文中荣获一等奖第二名（10名获奖者），三等奖第一名（30名获奖者），选送的休斯敦侨界十三篇征文全部入围（150篇入围），是主办单位在全球200多家海外华文媒体中友情链接的20多家主要媒体之一。本报通过中国新闻社驻美国分社报道了大休斯敦地区侨界为四川大地震赈灾募捐的感人场面，该文章经新浪网转载后，为海外赈灾募捐起到了积极的宣传作用。
《华夏时报》顾问团有国际著名艺术家徐冰、杨先让、王维力；国际著名科学家蒙如玲；国内文化顾问有刘焕章、杨辛、王曼力、周洁、濮存昕等著名人士。副社长周爱萍曾任农工大学中文学校校长，至今连任9年全美中文学校协会理事。副主编贾忠多次在中国及国际摄影大赛中获奖，以特殊人才移民休斯敦。总经理陆钢博士为美国马拉松石油公司资深地质物理学家。
2012年山东省聊城市和威海市聘请本报社长于建一为海外交流顾问。
2012年4月美国著名华裔领袖陈香梅在华盛顿陈纳德将军楼会见了于建一。
2011年11月全国人大常委会原副委员长、全国妇联名誉主席彭珮云在北京中国妇联会见了于建一，妇联副主席孟晓驷等参加了会见。
2011年2月美国国会议员为《华夏时报》创刊六周年颁发了贺函。赞扬华夏时报在美中文化交流和为亚裔社区服务的奉献。
2010年5月，休斯敦市长为社长于建一颁发了嘉奖函，表彰该报在美国人口普查中的贡献。
2007年7月路易斯安娜州首府巴吞汝日市市长为于建一颁发“荣誉市长”证书，表彰其二十年来在美中文化交流中的贡献。

About us
Founded in 2004, Chinese Times is a very popular Chinese
newspaper (in simplified Chinese) in the Chinese communities of
Greater Houston area. Published 16 to 28 pages (13 by 20 inches)
weekly. it is a free newspaper delivered every Friday and
Saturday to various businesses in the Chinese community,
including supermarkets, Chinese schools, art schools, banks,
clinics, restaurant, and various office buildings.
Online version of Chinese Times (www.chinesetimes.us) became
available in 2006. All full pages of the Chinese Times newspaper
including advertisements can be viewed as high resolution PDF
files from our website.
The Chinese Times is dedicated to promote Sino-US culture
exchange and provide readers with quality news coverage. Our
team of professionally trained reporters, photographers and
editors produce sections that highlight important international
and U.S. news on culture and arts, science and education,
economics and business, as well as features on sports,
entertainment, finance, literature, home, technology, health and
medicine, as well as many useful information for consumers and
businesses.
The Chinese Times has special emphasis on news from China,
Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia and local Chinese
communities. Partnering with the China News Services and CCTV4,
the Chinese Times has greatly increased its readership.
Partnering with Sina (one of the most famous web service company
in China), the Chinese Times interview and report NBA events,
especially Houston Rockets, including games, community
activities and press conferences. Chinese Times also partners
with a globally published magazine “Women of China”, promoting
its initial marketing and publication in the US in September
2012.
In praising Chinese Times for its promoting Sino-US relation and
contributions of Chinese women in the US, Anna Chen Chennault
(Chen Xiangmei) met with the president of the Chinese Times
Jianyi Yu in April of 2012 in Washington DC.
On February of 2011, US Congressman Al Green highly praised the
Chinese Times for its commitment to promoting Sino-US culture
exchange in his letter of congratulation for the Chinese Times
six year anniversary.
On May of 2010, Mayor Annise Parker in her letter of
appreciations highly recognized the Chinese Times for
professionalism, dedication and service shown during the Houston
Counts Census 2010 effort.
